Purpose of Recoats
 | Whether you purchased a home with hardwood floors or if you had them
sanded and refinished your floors will begin to lose the surface coating.
Especially in high traffic areas such as front entrances or paths from room to
room. Depending on the amount of traffic and the type of floor coating, the
amount of time before you should recoat your floors will change. Usually 3 to
5 years. |
 | If you begin to see areas where the floor has lost it's shine or if you
should see bare wood you are in need of a recoat. Failing to recoat a floor
will cause harm and additional expense because it will have to be completely
sanded. Should the surface become completely bare and exposed to sunlight or
water you will begin to have darkened areas. This is a result of exposure of
the wood and will require a complete sanding and recoating to repair it to
perfect appearance. |
 | Recoating is a way of adding years of use and beauty to your floors. A
typical hardwood floor is able to refinished 3 to 4 times before the surface
becomes to thin. Recoating extends the life of the floor as well as enhancing
the beauty and at a fraction of the cost of refinishing.
|
 | Preparation for a Recoat: |
You will need to clear your room or rooms and tape off any doors or other
areas to contain dust. If you want you can ask to have dust
containment included in your bid. After the job is complete access to the floor
will vary depending on what type of coating you choose. The time can be as short
as 24 hours and as long as 72 hours. Both of these times will be for light
traffic only preferably without shoes.
Purpose of Sanding
 | If your floor is showing considerable wear, or perhaps you would like to
change the color or you've completed renovations in your home then your best
option will be sanding them to bare wood. One of the real advantages of wood
floors is that they can be refinished many times before needing to be
replaced. |
 | The refinishing process begins by sanding the floor, with heavy-duty
commercial sanders, down to the bare wood. This process can create a lot of
dust in your home Norton Floor Refinishing will be using a (Dust
Containment System) equipment. |
 | After sanding, the floor is examined. Any bad wood is replaced and any
cracks are filled with Wood Floor Filler. If you have chosen a stain it will
be applied after a finish sanding step using a fine abrasion screen. Your
floor will then be sealed with a Sealer. This product not only seals the wood,
it provides an optimum surface for applying one of the premium waterborne or
oil modified finishes. To provide a deep, rich finish 2 to 3 coats are
applied. |
 | You'll have several appearance options with finishes -- gloss, semi gloss
or satin depending on the finish you decide to use. With one of our free
